Our Team of Perinatal Experts

When you come to our Perinatal Center, you will have an entire experienced team focused on your health needs. Most of our staff members have been part of the center for years, and thus have become a cohesive medical unit, offering outstanding multi-disciplinary expertise. Our physicians are all board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, are practicing physicians and specialists in Maternal Fetal Medicine. As a part of Maimonides, our team works closely with other specialty areas and services, such as cardiology, oncology, NICU, pediatrics, and midwifery, so if needed you will receive collaborative care.

Closely Partnering with Referring Physicians

We consider our referring physicians part of our team, and work closely with them to provide the best care possible, whether it be a one-time consultation or long-term co-management. We welcome the partnership and are available to you, to answer any questions you may have about your care.

The Regional Perinatal Center at Maimonides

Our Center offers a complete range of testing services, from pre-conception through to delivery. We can now diagnose a number of health disorders at increasingly earlier times in the pregnancy, which can allow for treatment of the fetus with certain disorders. Since many mothers are giving birth at an older age and multiple pregnancies have doubled over the last 10 years, there is a higher risk of congenital anomalies, prematurity, and risk of loss. The need for perinatal testing has never been higher and more essential. Our skilled team has unrivaled years of experience and success stories.

Genetic Testing Expertise

Our physicians have years of training and are known in the community for their expertise in reproductive genetics. Genetic counseling is provided to discuss the benefits and necessity of particular procedures. Our highly trained genetic specialists will help you understand the tests, so you can decide what is best for you and your family. Our testing and counseling accommodates religious and ethical sensitivities.

What should pregnant mothers expect?

Our services begin before conception and continue throughout the pregnancy and postpartum stage. We work closely with the primary care referring physicians through consultation and co-management. Since our care is collaborative, our team will work closely with both reproductive and fertility specialists. The preconception consultation covers many topics, inlcuding: examining your family history, including your genetic history, any previous pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia; the history of any other siblings; recurrent pregnancy losses; history of postpartum depression; your age and its impact; and infertility, maternal disease and endocrinology.

During the first trimester, testing will be completed for nuchal translucency to tell us about the risk of Down's syndrome and early detection of other anomalies and maternal high-risk conditions, including risk for preterm delivery. As you progress into the second trimester, we will begin detailed fetal testing, fetal anatomy, and three-dimensional testing. Our sophisticated three-dimensional obstetrical ultrasound with color Doppler provides detailed images of the fetus. From the ultrasound, our team can evaluate growth rate, movement, breathing, positioning, placental conditions, abnormalities, abnormal masses, bleeding, the number of fetuses present and see a detailed anatomy. The goal of these tests is to predict any health issues in advance and to then create a management plan.

We have a comprehensive program for management of Gestational diabetes, a form of diabetes that can occur during the second half of your pregnancy. Although this form of diabetes often goes away when the child is born, if it is not treated properly during pregnancy, complications may occur. Our Nutritional Counseling staff will teach you which foods are right for you so that your blood sugar level will stay in the normal range. We believe in educating women so they are empowered to make healthy decisions for themselves and their families.
