Northwell Health and Maimonides Medical Center today announced they have signed a two-year extension of a strategic partnership that began three years ago to better meet the current and future health needs of Brooklyn residents. The affiliation agreement, originally signed in August 2015, is now in effect until August 2020.
“We are confident that this partnership will continue to provide value to both organizations, and also benefit the many diverse communities of Brooklyn that rely on Maimonides for their health care needs,” said Kenneth Gibbs, president and CEO of Maimonides. “We look forward to continuing to work closely with Northwell’s talented team as Maimonides continues to provide the excellent clinical outcomes that have placed our services in the top tier nationally.”
Maimonides and Northwell will continue their phased partnership approach as they deepen their relationship over the period of the extension. The two institutions will expand their current range of initiatives, with physicians from both organizations collaborating and sharing best practices across multiple specialty areas. Under the extension, Maimonides and Northwell will each continue to maintain their independence and separate governance structures.
“Maimonides continues to be a critical component of Northwell’s expansion strategy in Brooklyn,” said Mark Solazzo, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Northwell. “This extension will enable us to make continued progress in strengthening our relationship.”
Over the past three years, Northwell has financed renovations and other infrastructure improvements, and expanded Maimonides’ ambulatory network of clinical services. The investments have helped position Maimonides for continued success and strengthened its ability to provide tertiary services for Brooklyn residents. In addition, Northwell has provided Maimonides with access to the health system’s extensive shared services infrastructure and expertise, and has helped Maimonides continue to achieve operating efficiencies.
