Maimonides Medical Center residents are members of the Committee on Interns and Residents (CIR), a union representing house staff officers in the United States. Salary and benefits are discussed and arranged after a process of review and discussion in conjunction with CIR representatives. We offer our residents and fellows:

  • 403-b Tax Sheltered Annuity Plans (Prudential and TIAA-CREF)
  • A comprehensive medical care plan through the Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield Point of Service (POS) Plan, which is administered by the CIR . Either individual or family coverage is available. The employer makes monthly contributions for each House Staff Officer employed within the CIR/SEIU bargaining unit and their eligible dependents to the Voluntary Hospitals House Staff Benefits Plan (VHHSBP) on the first day of each month
  • Dental coverage is provided through Guardian. There is a minor monthly fee
  • Discounted employee parking and free parking when on-call with a parking voucher from the department
  • Free legal services covering immigration service and other areas
  • Life, Disability, Malpractice, Travel, and Accident Insurance (Group Life, short- and long-term disability insurance fully paid by the hospital)
  • Medical education benefits: Up to $525 per academic year towards the cost of an educational conference, board review, textbooks, journals, electronic equivalents, PDAs, and/or exam fees, subject to the approval of the chairperson or designee
  • Pharmacy services through co-payments
  • Vacation: weeks annual vacation (must be approved by the Chair or Program Director on a case-by-case basis taking into consideration academic requirements and scheduling needs of the department)
