Residency Overview

Our mission is to produce highly qualified radiologists who are capable of accurate and efficient diagnosis, effective communication with referring physicians, and maintaining and enhancing their knowledge. We combine in-person and remote education to teach our residents the fundamentals of diagnostic and interventional radiology.

Residents achieve graded responsibility and independence over time and at the conclusion of 4 years of training, our graduates move on with confidence to advanced training at the fellowship level in the subspecialty of their choice! As a premier academic medical center, we are devoted to educating the next generation of stellar radiologists.

“Maimonides is a wonderful place to become a radiologist. The core faculty can prioritize resident education rather than productivity alone. The camaraderie and team spirit of the department creates an environment you will enjoy while living, learning and working.”

Curriculum Overview

You will have 4 years of training in all aspects of radiology. We teach a curriculum based on recommendations from the ABR and ACGME to produce radiologists with a skill set (both clinical and professional) that is desirable to future employers. To underpin and complement your experience and training in imaging we have organized training in Radiology Physics presented in a way that you will find engaging and interesting.

Our third-year residents spend 4 weeks at the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology consolidating their knowledge. We also supplement our own superb conferences, with nationally and internationally renowned Grand Rounds speakers and Lecture Series.

Residents are evaluated after every rotation and given feedback to help them further improve and develop. The Residents also evaluate the faculty, conferences, and rotations (anonymously). Research and quality improvement (QI) projects are required but the collaborative environment between our Residents and our Faculty has never made this a challenge for even the most research-averse Resident. Over the years, because they are so close to the action, our residents have identified, studied, and improved our workflow. In your 4 years, we promise to train you and we hope you will teach us as well.

How To Apply

Applications can be submitted this fall through ERAS at www.aamc.org/eras. Complete details and timelines for individual programs are available on the ERAS website.

Three letters of recommendation are required. We review a dean’s letter, transcript, USMLE/COMLEX scores etc. Preference is given to United States Citizens and Permanent Residents. No visa type is guaranteed and if you are applying with a visa, a passing USMLE Step 3 result is required to be considered for ranking.

We review the application in its entirety. However, we do not consider residents who have used more than 1 year of their ACGME full funding eligibility. As all applications are accepted through ERAS, we do not accept paper applications. We do not offer pre-matches.

Maimonides Medical Center complies with federal and city laws and orders prohibiting discrimination in employment. Such discrimination includes race, creed, color, national origin, sex, age, handicap, marital status or sexual orientation.

The Department of Radiology accepts applications for its residency program beginning September 15th.

Our fully accredited program has 16 advanced radiology positions, and we fill four PGY-1 advanced positions each year.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. If selected, invitations to interview are sent in late October and early November.

Please call our Residency Coordinator, Rosa Duluc, at (718) 283-6151. Leave a voicemail and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
