The Radiology Department at Maimonides Medical Center is led by Interim Chair Dr. Steven Shankman, Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging & Intervention and Residency Program Director. Our leadership team directs a talented staff of 19 board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologists with expertise in all areas of imaging. The department offers subspecialty experience in its established divisions of neuroradiology, including neurointerventional, breast imaging, chest radiology, pediatric radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, nuclear medicine, vascular and interventional radiology, and body imaging, including MRI, CT and ultrasound. Advanced imaging includes CT/MR angiography, cardiac CT/MR, Breast MR, virtual colonoscopy/bronchoscopy and 3D imaging.
The goal of the Radiology Residency Program is to train highly qualified radiology physicians who are capable of skillfully utilizing all the various imaging modalities available for the purpose of accurate and efficient diagnosis. Competence in interventional procedures, both diagnostic and therapeutic, is stressed. This is achieved by emphasizing the resident’s role as both apprentice and student, and the attending physician’s role as mentor and teacher.
