Residency Overview

The Psychiatry Residency Program offers an outstanding training experience under the program’s leadership team. With sub-specialty trained faculty, residents get exposure to all disciplines of psychiatry while getting comprehensive experience in clinical work, research, and academia. We continuously aim to expand our offerings and support each resident with electives and opportunities that align with their individual interests.

Our residents are the true success of our program! Each trainee comes from a diverse background but collectively contributes to the collegial, diverse and close-knit community in a department that takes pride in the long-standing tradition of providing top quality care to patients of all backgrounds.

Curriculum Overview

Maimonides is truly an environment where learning is valued, and we take pride in providing residents the tools needed to become the psychiatric leaders of the future!

The Clinical Curriculum for PGY1s is split between 6 months of Medicine (Neurology, Primary Care, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics) and 6 months of Psychiatry (Inpatient and Emergency Psychiatry.)

PGY2s split their time between Inpatient, Child and Emergency Psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison, and a flexible “float” month. Individual supervision and mentorship is provided on all rotations.

PGY3 is dedicated to outpatient psychiatry with split focus between medication management and various modalities of psychotherapy. Individual and group supervisions are provided for various patient populations and sub-specialties within psychiatry.

PGY4s have 4 months of elective time to utilize for internal, external and international rotations in addition to being Junior-Attendings on various clinical services.

For the academic curriculum, each class has 4 hours of protected time per week, in addition to Grand Rounds, Journal Club series, case conferences and other interest talks. All residents have protected time to work on scholarly activities (QI/ research).

We incorporate our state-of-the-art Simulation Center to help our residents build confidence and competence by learning and debriefing in a controlled environment.
