Our Philosophy & Commitment
Excellence in Clinical Care & Medical Education
Medical education is constantly evolving. With a history of education that stretches over 100 years, Maimonides Medical Center is proud of our achievements, while remaining aware that we cannot rest on our laurels if we are to stay at the forefront of medical education. We strive to ensure that our programs not only meet all institutional, common program and specialty requirements promulgated by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the American Osteopathic Association, the American Dental Association and the Council on Podiatric Education, but also exceed them.
Maimonides affirms its commitment to excellence in clinical care and medical education by providing the financial, organizational and educational resources necessary to ensure that all programs deliver outstanding guidance and supervision of residents, and that each facilitates every residents' ethical, professional and personal development. We are also committed to, and will be responsible for, promoting patient safety and resident well-being.
The Department of Academic Affairs is the central administrative office that coordinates all Medical Education activities for Maimonides residency, fellowship, undergraduate and continuing education programs, to ensure all programs maintain the highest standards.
Along with the Graduate Medical Education Committee, this office is dedicated to establishing and implementing the policies and procedures which affect the quality of education, as well as the working environment, for all who choose to train at Maimonides Medical Center.
Inspiring Young People to Enter Healthcare
Maimonides collaborates with the New York City Board of Education, the Brooklyn Borough President's office, local high schools and community organizations to provide vocational experience for students in a health care setting.
