Students assigned to the Maimonides Children's Hospital Inpatient block will spend four weeks rotating in three different areas of the hospital. Two weeks will be spent on the inpatient unit (Peds 6, a.k.a. Aron 6) as part of the resident/hospitalist team, helping to care for a very diverse population admitted to both general pediatrics and pediatric subspecialty services.
One week will be spent in the newborn nursery (Aron 3) with residents and a nursery attending, helping to care for healthy term newborns as well as attending high-risk deliveries as part of the resuscitation team. Report to the Newborn Nursery on Aron 3 at 7am, in scrubs. The number to the main nursery is (718) 283-7335.
Pediatric Emergency Medicine
One week will include approximately 5 shifts in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (Kronish Building, Lower Level), working with residents and attendings to care for pediatric ED patients of both high and low acuity. The inpatient unit and newborn nursery are best reached through the main entrance on Tenth Avenue. The Emergency Department is best reached through the entrance near the corner of 49th Street and Ft. Hamilton Parkway. The order of the three parts of the rotation may vary from block to block.
