PGY-4 Curriculum

Residents in the fourth post-graduate year assume independent patient care responsibilities under the direct supervision of the faculty. They spend eight months at MMC with two-month rotation in Hand and Upper Extremity, Pediatric Orthopaedic,  Spine, and Orthopaedic Oncology Service. They spend another four months on the Orthopaedic Trauma service at Lutheran Medical Center.

The Lutheran Medical Center trauma rotation provides the resident with a broad exposure to the clinical and academic aspects of caring for the multiply injured patient and those with isolated, but complex, injuries that usually fall under the purview of an orthopedic trauma sub-specialist.  The Lutheran Medical Center is a busy Level-I Trauma Center in a high-density urban setting.
