Welcome to the Critical Care Fellowship

The Division of Critical Care Medicine offers a 1-year training program and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The outstanding teachers and top clinicians are consistently recognized for their excellence in health care. Our graduates have become board-certified in critical care and gone on to pursue fulfilling careers in critical care medicine.

4 fellows are trained annually in state-of-the-art ICUs

The Critical Care Fellowship experience

Our Critical Care fellows rotate through multiple critical care units (medical, surgical, and cardiac), as well as through the emergency department and hemodialysis center.

Fellows learn how to provide critical care to patients outside of the critical care units, which includes providing consultations to the critically ill throughout the Medical Center. We place a particular emphasis on the development of critical analytical skills and the understanding of current literature by utilizing system-based approaches.

There is also a formal didactic lecture series. Fellows are encouraged to participate in multiple ongoing clinical research projects in the division. Each year our fellows present their research at both national and international conferences.

Research

The Division of Critical Care engages in multiple clinical research projects in which fellows either participate or initiate a new project. Our primary areas of research include the management of mechanically ventilated patients, hemodynamics of septic shock, the use of blood and blood products in critically ill patients, and the specialized needs of geriatric critically ill patients.

The future of medical care is you

Our program strives to provide the best educational experience in an environment that assures a balance between academic and clinical activities. We take great pride in our success in preparing fellows to become the next generation of expert practitioners.
