Residency Overview

We are an ACGME-accredited three-year residency program nestled in the heart of Brooklyn, New York. Our residents train in one of the most culturally diverse communities in the world and care for over 120,000 patients each year from all walks of life. We pride ourselves on providing a robust critical care, ultrasound, and prehospital experience. We are a comprehensive Stroke Center, STEMI Center, Level 1 Trauma Center and the only Pediatric Trauma Center in Brooklyn. Maimonides remains the fourth largest independent teaching hospital in the country and is ranked top 10 in the country for clinical excellence.

Our faculty include over 40 full-time attending physicians, who have specialty training in Ultrasonography, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Medical Education, Medical Informatics, Simulation, Toxicology, and Critical Care Medicine.

Program Director
Dr. Chung is the Program Director for the Maimonides Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency Program. She completed her Emergency Medicine residency training at Brown University and fellowship training in Medical Education at Maimonides Medical Center. As a nationally recognized speaker and educator, Dr. Chung has made advocating for physician wellness a central focus of her career though lectures, teaching, policy development, and creating sustainable solutions for the future.

Curriculum Overview

We pride ourselves on a strong educational mission that is exemplified by our innovative formal curriculum. Maimonides was one of the first Emergency Medicine programs in the country to implement a flipped classroom model for core content learning in 2013 and continues to be a pioneer in adult learning techniques.

How To Apply

Applications to our residency program should be submitted through ERAS at www.aamc.org/eras. Complete details and timelines are available on the ERAS website.


Our program has been fully accredited since 2001. We are currently accepting 18 PGY-1 residents per year through the National Resident Matching Program.
