Specializing in Pediatric Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Surgical Treatment

Maxillofacial Surgery

The oral and maxillofacial fields encompass the diagnosis and surgical treatment of birth defects, injuries and diseases of the jaw, mouth, teeth and facial structure. These conditions include cleft lip and cleft palate. The Children's Hospital is one of the few Brooklyn hospitals specializing in the diagnosis, surgical treatment and management of cleft lip and cleft palate.

The Children's Hospital also treats other maxillofacial problems such as Pierre Robin syndrome, hemifacial microsomia, and Trecher-Collins syndrome. We are the resource other hospitals refer patients to for surgery and treatment. Children dealing with oral and maxillofacial issues may need surgery throughout their childhood and adolescence. Experts at the Children's Hospital are here for your child and your family to manage every stage of treatment and care.

Our team of board-certified pediatric surgeons are highly trained and dedicated to treating children with cleft lip and cleft palate. Working with advanced technology, which allows for detection of disease and deformities prior to birth, pediatric surgeons manage the case from the moment your child is born throughout their teenage years. Our medical experts collaborate with other related departments such as neonatology, anesthesiology, dentistry, speech therapy, and ear, nose and throat (ENT) to provide comprehensive care. In order to reduce your child's anxiety, we evaluate and deliver care that is child-friendly in an environment created just for them.
