Children's Emergency Care

Including Brooklyn's ONLY Children's Trauma Center

At the Children's Hospital, emergencies are our specialty. We treat infants, children and adolescents (newborn to 17 years of age) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Maimonides has offered dedicated pediatric emergency care for over 30 years. This experience enables us to provide the highest quality care and outcomes while minimizing risk for your child.

Our experts provide outstanding pediatric emergency care in our fully-accredited Pediatric Emergency Room, treating a range of conditions - from allergic reactions to injuries and acute illnesses. Our team is comprised of board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians, fellows and pediatric emergency nurses, as well as other specialists who can consult and provide additional services if required, including pediatric medical and surgical specialists. With expertise in bedside pediatric ultrasound, our team makes every effort to reduce radiation exposure and limit unnecessary tests for your child.

Since Brooklyn is home to children from all over the world, translation services are available at all times. We are also prepared for emergency conditions that may be uncommon in the United States. All diagnosis and care is child-friendly, delivered in an environment created just for them.

Pediatric Trauma Center

Maimonides is  Brooklyn’s only Pediatric Trauma Center. This certifies that we are equipped to treat life-threatening injuries that result from serious incidents like falls and car accidents.  The NYS Department of Health recognizes only a select few hospitals for dedication to meeting the standards of care established by the American College of Surgeons—Committee on Trauma.

Children have different health needs than adults, so it is vitally important they are seen by specialized experts when they have suffered a trauma of any kind.

Pediatric emergency care, now including trauma care, is provided in the fully-accredited Pediatric Emergency Room at Maimonides, a division of both Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics.
