Paul Saunders, MD
Dr. Saunders is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon who joined Maimonides in 2011 to help launch the LVAD Program. Dr. Saunders completed his general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery training at NYU Medical Center and practiced cardiac and thoracic surgery at Westchester Medical Center for five years, prior to being recruited to Maimonides. He has published extensively in the medical literature on topics relating to cardiac surgery, and has given numerous lectures both locally and nationally.
In addition to LVADs and surgery for heart failure, Dr. Saunders performs all other types of cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repairs and replacements. He is particularly interested in surgery for heart failure, implantable ventricular assist devices, and novel therapies for cardiogenic shock, such as extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
Gregory Crooke, MD
Dr. Crooke is a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon with over 18 years of medical experience. He completed his residency at North Western University and his fellowship at NYU Tisch Hospital. He joined Maimonides after seven years as a cardiothoracic surgeon at NYU Medical Center. In additon to LVAD implantation, Dr. Crooke performs all types of cardiac surgery, including minimally invasive valve surgery and valve repair. He has published and presented extensively throughout his career both nationally and internationally.

Norbert Moskovits, MD
Dr. Moskovitz is the Director of the Congestive Heart Failure Program at Maimonides, as well as the Associate Director of Clinical Cardiology and the Coronary Care Unit. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center, and trained in Cardiology at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. In 1995, Dr. Moskovits brought his expertise back to Maimonides.
Under his guidance, the Maimonides Heart Failure Program has grown to be one of the best in the country. It has been given the highest rating by Healthgrades and consistently achieves one of the lowest mortality rates, not just in New York State, but nationwide.
