Cardiac Outreach

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States. Yet, many women don’t know it or don’t talk about it. Maimonides aims to change that.

We make women’s heart health a priority. That’s why we established Women’s Heart to Heart, an initiative of the Maimonides Heart & Vascular Center that educates women on the facts and risks of heart disease.

We are committed to increasing access for women in communities throughout Brooklyn to all of the programs at Maimonides that address women’s health issues. We encourage women to seek preventative care to reduce their risk of developing cardiovascular disease by providing direct access to Maimonides physicians and programs; the information and resources we provide at our women’s heart clinic empower women to make heart-healthy lifestyle changes.

Each year, the Maimonides Heart & Vascular Center performs an average of 5,500 non-invasive, minimally-invasive, and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures in state-of-the-art facilities.

Did You Know?

  • Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States.  Approximately one of every four will die from the disease.

  • Symptoms of heart disease in women differ from those in men.  It is not only a "man's disease."

  • Women's blood vessels are smaller than men's, increasing the likelihood of plaque buildup resulting in blockages.

  • Menopause can lower levels of good cholesterol (HDL) due to a decrease of estrogen hormone.
