Cardiothoracic Intensive Care

An Exceptional Team of Cardiac Specialists

The surgery is the first part of the treatment process, but equally essential is the care you receive in the hours spent immediately after surgery. At Maimonides, patients recovering from cardiothoracic surgery are assigned to the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU), which has and outstanding staff that work directly with your surgeons to ensure the optimal level of care.

Cardiothoracic surgeons, fellows, NP’s and RN’s provide close observation during a patient’s recovery.

The CTICU provides expert care and treatment to patients who have undergone various open heart procedures. The CTICU team -- cardiothoracic surgeons, fellows, NP’s and RN’s -- provide close observation during a patient’s recovery. When patients are admitted directly from the operating room, their progress is monitored by the latest clinical information systems, offering extensive treatment options for patients.

Once the patient is progressing they are then transferred to the step-down unit. In the step down unit they are monitored with telemetry and cared for by a multidisciplinary team of caregivers.
