Healthy Eating on a Budget
New York City offers access to some benefits that enable access to cheaper and healthy foods.
One of those programs is called SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). If you're eligible for SNAP Benefits, you can use them to purchase healthy foods at authorized grocery stores and markets. Click here to learn more about who is eligible for SNAP Benefits, and you can also apply online or download the applications forms offered in many languages.
With SNAP Benefits, you receive an EBT card (Electronic Benefits Transfer), which is similar to a debit card, and every month, your benefits will automatically be put into your account.
Use Health Bucks! Starting July 1st, when you spend $5 using your EBT card at a farmer's market, you can get a $2 Health Buck that can be used to buy fruits and vegetables
We'd love to hear from you.
