Maimonides Adult & Children's Trauma Center

Available 24/7 to treat life-threatening injuries

Maimonides is now an official New York State Department of Health (DOH) approved Pediatric and Adult Trauma Center.

This recognition certifies that we are equipped to provide the highest level of trauma care, including treating life-threatening injuries that result from serious incidents like falls, car accidents, and gunshot wounds, across all specialties. The DOH only approves hospitals that meet the highest, nationally recognized standards of care established by the American College of Surgeons—Committee on Trauma.

Trauma Surgery is a division of our Department of Surgery, and our trauma team is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to treat serious injuries and emergencies.

Brooklyn’s ONLY Pediatric Trauma Center

Children have different medical needs than adults, so it is important that children are seen by specialized experts when they have suffered trauma of any kind.

Pediatric trauma and emergency care is provided in our fully-accredited Pediatric Emergency Room.

Our Pediatric Trauma Center is integrated with the comprehensive medical services we offer for infants, children and teens at Maimonides Children's Hospital - Brooklyn’s only accredited Children’s Hospital. We provide a full continuum of care, therefore your child can receive additional treatment as needed from our specialists.

Expanding Emergency Care in Brooklyn

If you are seriously injured, every second counts. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responders transport critically injured patients to the nearest Trauma Center - reducing the amount of time between injury and receiving medical treatment, is critical to improving outcomes.

The Maimonides Trauma Center significantly expands access to the highest level emergency trauma services for individuals and families in Brooklyn.

The ER team at Maimonides cares for over 100,000 patients each year, treating a wide range of illnesses and injuries in a state-of-the-art setting.

The Emergency Department serves a range of needs— including adult critical care, adult acute care, pediatric care and psychiatric care.  We also have a dedicated Psychiatric ER, staffed by psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and social workers, with full-time coverage by security personnel.  Open 24 hours a day, this specialized facility provides privacy and confidentiality to psychiatric patients.
