General Surgery

Maimonides surgeons are among the best in the nation. Each surgeon has advanced training or proficiency in a specialized area of surgery including surgical oncology, hepatobiliary surgery, minimally invasive surgery, surgical critical care, and evidence based practice.  In addition to offering the full range of general surgical services within the division the surgeons work closely with their colleagues in the other divisions to provide the best multidisciplinary care for you and your family.

Commonly performed operations include:

  • Gallbladder removal
  • Liver, bile duct, and pancreatic surgery
  • Repair of all types of hernias
  • Appendectomies
  • Stomach and intestinal operations
  • Treatment of soft tissue masses and tumors

We also treat many emergency conditions including intra-abdominal catastrophes and trauma.

Many of these operations are done using minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy and robotic surgery.  More than half of the operations are performed in our modern ambulatory surgery center with patients discharged several hours post operatively.

In addition, the surgeons participate in teaching residents and medical students, are active in a broad spectrum of quality improvement activities and perform clinical and laboratory research.
