Maimonides cares for your mental and behavioral health

Developing and maintaining harmonious family relationships involve positive interactions and commitment among family members. We know this can be challenging when behavioral concerns emerge within the family, and we’re here to help. Our compassionate behavioral health professionals believe the relationship between physical and mental processes is crucial in understanding behavioral issues in children, adolescents, and adults.
Maimonides has developed an outstanding reputation for multidisciplinary psychiatric care and provides an extensive range of mental and behavioral healthcare services. The department offers comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic services to meet the mental health and developmental needs of children, adults, and families in Brooklyn and beyond. Maimonides is sensitive to the needs of patients, which is why many of our clinicians are bilingual.

The development and care your child deserves

Maimonides Medical Center provides comprehensive outpatient child and adolescent psychiatry care on-site and virtually. Our Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic evaluates and provides treatment for children and adolescents ages 4-17 years old. Services include individual therapy, psychopharmacology management, behavioral parent training, and mindfulness groups for children and adolescents with anxiety, depression, mood instability, ADHD, OCD, tic disorders and additional mental health diagnoses.
The clinic is staffed by an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, resident psychiatrists, psychologists, and clinical social workers. The clinic partners with patients and caregivers to best understand their child’s experience and work with families to identify and involve the critical partners in their child’s life.

At Maimonides Medical Center, we have a special program during the summer called “Help Us Grow” which is a six week respite program for children within our clinic. This is a fun way for children ages 6-17 years old with various diagnoses to engage with other children in the development of social and emotion regulation skills and build confidence. Children learn to make new friends and cope with bullying, identify and manage their feelings, and engage with others in appropriate ways.

Providing acute psychiatric care for adults

Our psychiatric inpatient services are comprised of 2 units. Each unit provides acute care of patients age 18 and older who require hospitalization. In addition to 24-hour nursing care, our services include individual, group, and family therapies, psychopharmacology, psychological testing, electroconvulsive therapy, and dance, music, and art therapies.

The Consultation and Emergency Psychiatry Service provides psychiatric consultations for adult medical and surgical inpatients. Psychiatric assessments are also provided in the Emergency Department. For more information, call (718) 283-7841.

We offer wellness and recovery services

The service is a dynamic and voluntary, group therapy-focused program providing treatment for patients diagnosed with acute or chronic mental illness. The multidisciplinary clinical team, consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, mental health workers, and other support staff, helps patients develop the social and emotional skills necessary to cope effectively in a community environment. The enhancement of patient strengths and functional self-awareness is emphasized to reduce relapse and the need for subsequent hospitalization. We know this can be a stressful time for families and loved ones, which is why we are committed to enhancing our patients’ emotional, physical, and mental well-being in a supportive environment.

In addition to traditional individual and group psychotherapy and medication management, we provide additional specialized activities and therapy groups, including family therapy. Informal socialization opportunities are available during meals (we serve breakfast and lunch to all of our patients) and at other times. Specific treatment programs are available for Russian and Spanish speaking patients. For more information, call (718) 283-7800.
