What is a hospitalist?
A hospitalist is a full-time, board certified internist who specializes in providing comprehensive medical care for patients in the hospital. They are physicians who provide continuous and direct care for hospitalized patients, 24 hours/7 days a week. The growth of this specialty is one of the notable changes in medical care in the United States in recent years.
The Maimonides Hospitalist Program
At Maimonides, our hospitalists are board certified in internal medicine, and are available 24 hours, 7 days a week to manage your care and answer questions you or your family may have about your condition and treatment. Our staff collectively speak Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Italian, Russian, and Urdu.
Hospitalists work in cooperation with your personal physician and provide them with regular periodic progress reports to ensure that you receive the optimal level of care. After discharge your personal physician will receive a summary of your hospitalization and he or she will resume responsibility for your care.
