Geriatric Medicine

Specialized Services for Seniors and Their Families

Brooklyn has the largest percentage of elderly New Yorkers,  44% of whom have disabilities, including mobility and self-care limitations.

In response to the needs of this aging population, Maimonides Medical Center established a comprehensive geriatric program. Our geriatric medicine specialists understand and specialize in meeting the unique health needs of older patients.  Maimonides has been recognized as a NICHE-designated hospital. NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders), awarded by the Hartford Institute of Geriatric Nursing, signals our resolve to provide evidence-based, interdisciplinary approaches to the care of older adults. This results in improved outcomes and greater satisfaction for patients and their families.
