Medical Intensive Care Unit
Our critical care services strive to provide care that is consistent, evidence-based and high quality. With a focus on patient care, we have adopted a multi-disciplinary approach to critical care by utilizing physician intensivists to manage the care of our sickest patients. Our integrated approach has led to standardized ICU admissions and treatment protocols that have resulted in a shorter length of stay and fewer complications for our patients.
Intensivists are hospital-based physicians who specialize in the care of patients in intensive care and intermediate care units. Their training has prepared them for the range of medical conditions they encounter. Intensivists take over the patient’s care from the time they enter the unit, working closely with the admitting physician.
In addition to their clinical expertise, our academic intensivists are outstanding educators and are fully committed to our teaching programs that include a fully accredited fellowship in the subspecialty of critical care. The staff is involved in numerous research projects and is well published on various aspects of managing the critically ill patient.
Our critical care model is an integrated one, including the physicians-intensivists, nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, and social workers.
Our medical intensive care unit is staffed by board-certified critical care physicians and specially trained critical care nurses.
