Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions
Adult and Youth Volunteering FAQs
Q. I would like to volunteer. What should I do?
A. Once you have completed an application form and questionnaire, we will invite qualified candidates in for an interview to discuss how we can match your interests with the hospital's needs. Please download and return the appropriate adult or youth volunteer application forms. If you need a form sent to you by postal mail, please call the Department of Volunteer and Student Services at (718) 283-3980.
Q. How long does it take before I can start volunteering?
A. As soon as we receive your completed application and two personal references, you will be invited for an interview to discuss your past experience and skills, as well as the volunteer opportunities available. If accepted, you will be scheduled for a 2-hour orientation. For some programs, there are additional trainings involved.
Q. Do I need medical clearance?
A. Yes. Our medical requirements include: an annual physical exam and a PPD test within 6 months both completed by your private physician as well as an official lab report showing immune titers to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella. We will give you the medical packet at the time of the interview.
Q. Will I get paid?
A. Volunteer positions are not paid. However, as a token of our appreciation, we will provide you with a meal voucher to be used in our cafeteria. We will also invite you to our annual Recognition ceremony.
Q. Can I get a job at Maimonides after I volunteer?
A. Volunteering does necessarily not lead to paid employment. However, you will get experience and gain skills necessary for future career opportunities.
