Preparing For Your Visit to Maimonides Cancer Center
Request an appointment with a Cancer Specialist
Please call our appointment specialists Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Right here in Brooklyn, you can find complete, local care for all types of cancer, including breast cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer, as well as other cancers and blood disorders. Many of our physicians and staff speak multiple languages, including Arabic, Cantonese, Creole, English, French, German, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Spanish, Shanghainese, Tagala, Toisan, Yiddish, and Fu Zhou. If you would like to request a spoken language or sign language interpreter, please tell your nurse or ask to speak to a patient care representative.
Your first appointment
Having someone accompany you during visits to Maimonides Cancer Center is very much recommended – their companionship and support is irreplaceable.
When you arrive at the entrance to Maimonides Cancer Center at 6300 Eighth Avenue (at 63rd Street), please register at the Registration/Financial Office on the first floor. You will then be directed to your clinic appointment.
Your visit begins in the lab area where a patient care technician (PCT) will take your vital signs – temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height and weight. Any blood needed will be drawn by the PCT at that time. You will then be assigned to an exam room where you will be examined by a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
You and your physician may be able to make a decision about your treatment plan during your first visit. But often, additional time may be needed to ensure you have a full understanding of your diagnosis and recommended treatment.
