Brooklyn: The Borough That Never Sleeps

From art to amusement parks, beaches to nightlife, comedy shows to major sporting events, you'll be hard-pressed to run out of things to do – without ever having to set foot outside of the borough. But if you do happen to want to partake in the cultural riches of Manhattan, the "always on" New York City mass transit system makes it easy for you to get there and back home, quickly and safely.

Brooklyn is home to dozens of world-class history museums, theaters, galleries and arts organizations. From the renowned Brooklyn Museum, which is home to one of world's most extensive and inclusive permanent art collections, to world-famous Coney Island to the exclusive performance series at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn has something for everyone.

Take in the sights and amusements at Coney Island or the New York Aquarium. Visit Prospect Park, the largest green space in Brooklyn, for its outdoor concerts, zoo and recreational activities. If you’re a music lover, visit the Regina Opera Company, a small, professional troupe which stages full productions of the world's most beloved operatic works. Get some fun in the sun at Brighton Beach or the ironically named Manhattan Beach. Two of the borough’s most well-known attractions – the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden – offer free admission at specific times throughout the year.

Brooklyn also offers some of the most vibrant entertainment events in the city. There are clubs that feature new bands, performance art, and poetry readings; concert halls presenting world-class orchestras, theater and dance companies; and galleries and festivals showcasing established and emerging artists. The Barclays Center, home to the Brooklyn Nets, is located in the center of the borough, making the sporting events, concerts and shows held there easily accessible to all. The borough is also home to the Brooklyn Cyclones, a minor league affiliate of the New York Mets.

Additionally, you’ll find shops and markets selling everything from the creations of young fashion designers to artisanal foods and local produce. Visit one of the many farmers markets conventiently located throughout the borough.

A view of Manhattan from the Brooklyn Promenade

And, with almost all of the world represented here, you can truly tour the cultures and cuisines of the globe – Asia, South and Central America, Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean – all on the same day, if you've got the energy and the appetite!

And just because you're in the best city in the world, doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the great outdoors while you're here. Bicycle, sled, jog, rollerblade, walk your dog, picnic, swim, fly a kite, or just sit and take in some amazing views. With miles of coastline and a view of Manhattan, spots like the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and Brooklyn Bridge Park offer amazing vistas day or night.
