Think of ionizing radiation as a laser-sharp scalpel. In the right hands it can be lifesaving. Sixty percent of all cancer patients require radiation therapy at some point in the course of their disease. There is no human tissue that is totally sensitive or totally resistant to ionizing radiation. The essence of using ionizing radiation for healing purposes is maximizing the dose in cancerous tissues, while simultaneously minimizing the dose in normal tissues.
