Dr. Khoury Collado is a Gynecologic Oncologist. He specializes in surgeries for gynecologic cancers, including cancers of the ovary, uterus, cervix, vulva and vagina.
Dr. Khoury Collado completed his training in gynecologic oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in one of the leading divisions of gynecologic oncology in the world. At the end of his training, he was awarded the Chairman’s Award for Excellence in Clinical Research in the Department of Surgery. During that time, he also completed a Masters in Biostatistics and Clinical Research Methodology at Columbia University in New York.
Dr. Khoury Collado's research interests include lymphatic mapping for gynecologic cancers, which allow targeting the lymph nodes with the highest likelihood of harboring malignant cells, in an effort to optimize adjuvant therapies while minimizing side effects resulting from extensive lymph node dissections. Through this research, he has collaborated with pioneers and leaders in the field and contributed to and published on one of the largest worldwide experience of the identification of sentinel nodes in endometrial cancer.
Dr. Khoury Collado has a special interest in fertility preserving surgery for early cervical cancer (radical trachelectomy), which allows young patients diagnosed with early cervical cancer to preserve their fertility without compromising their cancer treatment. In addition, Dr. Khoury Collado has published on the outcomes of surgeries for recurrent gynecologic malignancies (pelvic exenterations) and on surgery for advanced ovarian cancer (debulking).
As part of his fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, he has had extensive training in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic (using the Da Vinci Surgical System) and laparoscopic surgery, and their application to the treatment of benign and malignant gynecologic conditions. Additonally, Dr. Khoury Collado has contributed to and authored many peer reviewed publications, textbook chapters, and surgical videos presented at national and international meetings. He is a board certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist, a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and belongs to several medical societies including the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society.
His goal is to provide his patients with state of the art gynecologic cancer care along with the exceptional team of medical oncologists and radiation oncologists at the Maimonides Cancer Center. |
