Pressure ulcers, or bedsores, are a common risk among older people who may be bedridden or use wheelchairs. It’s important to seek treatment for pressure ulcers and wounds that are not healing properly

HBO therapy improves the healing process

Some patients may benefit from HBO therapy, especially those with non-healing wounds related to diabetes, bone infection, radiation injuries, burns, decompression illness, and carbon monoxide poisoning. To receive HBO therapy, you are seated in the hyperbaric chamber then placed under increased atmospheric pressure to breathe 100% oxygen. More oxygen in the blood and cells can promote faster healing.

A nurse or technician remains with you during your entire treatment, which may last between 1.5 and hours. During this time, you may rest, sleep, listen to music, or even watch TV. If you and your doctor determine that HBO therapy is right for you, your doctor will share additional details about how to get ready for treatment and what to expect during treatment.
