Mary Rojas, PhD


 
 
As a dedicated researcher, Dr. Rojas has over 25 years participating in and guiding a range of mental and physical health care studies. Her study design, methods, and statistical analytical skills span both qualitative and quantitative studies. She completed a pre - doctoral fellowship in Psychiatric Epidemiology at Columbia University, Ph.D. in Psychology at New York University, and post-doctorate research fellowship in Child Psychiatry from Columbia University. Her expertise in research on health disparities, health services, health policy, and child and adolescent health, infectious diseases and reproductive health are substantial and clearly demonstrated in her publications and biographical sketch. As the Director of Research at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center she led them to nearly 16 million dollars in funding for NIH research and foundation funded service program evaluation. She has taught more than 30 courses in research methods and statistics and mentored over 50 medical students, residents, fellows and attending. As the Director of Data Analysis at IPRO’s eServices and Health Care transparency, she developed and regularly developed statewide and national performance measures as evidences in the Commonwealth WhyNottheBest.org and the NYS and Illinois State Health care report cards.

Mary Rojas, PhD, in her recent position as Director of Research in Pediatrics at Maimonides Infants and Children’s Hospital, is developing a research training program, and research infrastructure to support health services research. In her four months at MMC has collaborated as a key investigator in the submission of grants for:
  • a Phase II R43 application to expand and evaluate a child abuse training tool for pediatricians (submitted 3/11),
  • and received intramural funding to study implicit racial biases in the determination and reporting of child abuse (7/11)
  • the evaluation design of a interventional study to increase the accuracy of child abuse reporting, an R01 submitted (6/11).

All of these recent initiatives were done with many of the key investigators on the present study (Drs. Laraque and Walker-Descartes).
