Pediatrics Spotlight...
The Cleft Lip and Palate Service was conceived and initiated by Drs. David Hoffman and Julius Berger in 2006, based on the need for a comprehensive approach to facial and palatal deformities encountered in the Children of Brooklyn. Our interdisciplinary approach includes screening for deformities during pregnancy, genetics evaluation to rule out comorbitities, pediatric hospitalist support pre and postoperatively, oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatric otolaryngology as well as speech and language pathologists for pre operative as well as post operative evaluation and therapy. Nursing
The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology, Allergy & Immunology cares for many children with chronic medical conditions, the majority of whom are technology dependent. The rash of recent natural disasters in our geographic area has inspired Pediatric Nurse Practitioners Kathryn Fitzgerald, RN, MSN, CPNP, AE-C and Jessica Dugre, RN, MSN, CPNP to look for ways to improve disaster preparedness for our most vulnerable patients. Family Centered Care
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) offers several Family Centered Care services and activities for families. Among these are a weekly scrapbooking group and weekly infant massage class sponsored by the Child Life Program. Additional resources available for families include a Bereavement Support Group for caregivers who have suffered a perinatal loss and a Teen Prenatal Parenting Club which are sponsored by the Case Management Department.
