Message from the Chair
On May 9, 2012, I had the pleasure of representing Maimonides Medical Center at the Press Conference at Harlem Hospital at the launching of the Breastfeeding, Latch-On Initiative of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Maimonides and 22 other NYC hospitals signed onto the initiative, thus agreeing that they would turn down the receipt of free infant formula, refuse to market formula for companies, and support a woman's choice to breastfeed. Our newborn nursery is located on the third floor of the new building and the renovated Kronish unit, adjacent to the Maternity units. Our Maternity center has over 7,000 deliveries each year. Staffed with nurses and General Pediatricians, our newborn nursery offers the highest quality healthcare for Brooklyn babies. Nursing
MICH has initiated a project aimed at developing tools to enhance communication between clinicians and families. Using the core concepts of patient and family centered care - dignity and respect, information sharing, participation, and collaboration - we are working to develop a simple and comprehensive approach to facilitate communication and the partnership between patients, families and healthcare professionals. In celebration of Nurses' Week, the Department of Nursing raffled off 15 beautiful baskets and donated the proceeds to Nurses House, a national fund for nurses in need. Congratulations to Tina Borden and Janine Browne, RN, two of the winners!

On March 11th, 25 MICH patients participated in the Naomi Cohain Foundation Express Yourself ArtWorks' Show.
