Vascular ultrasonography is a vital part of the clinical practice of vascular surgery. At Maimonides, we are proud to promote our vascular ultrasound lab, which is fully accredited by the IAC (Intersocietal Accreditation Commission). The lab performs screening, diagnostic, and post-operative non-invasive imaging using state of the art ultrasound and Doppler machines. Our technicians have years of experience performing both routine and complex ultrasound studies, rendering valuable clinical information to our surgeons at both our in-patient and out-patient labs.
Fellows spend dedicated time in the vascular lab, learning ultrasound and non-invasive vascular lab techniques and interpretation. In the operating room, they are trained to use ultrasound to assist with procedures, including the use of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS). Additionally, a portion of their didactic lectures are devoted to principles of vascular ultrasound. All of this is done to ensure our fellows have the proper training and knowledge to be able to incorporate this technology into their practice. It also provides great preparation for the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) Examination which is mandatory for all graduating fellows.
