In addition to scheduled teaching conferences, the Division of Urology at Maimonides offers educational opportunities through the New York Section of the American Urologic Association and the Section of Urology of the New York Academy of Medicine, who sponsor six urologic meetings during the academic year. All residents are encouraged to attend these meetings, two of which are mandator: the Residents’ Debate Night and the Residents Essay Meeting. The resident is sent to the Basic Science Course given at the University of Virginia. The chief residents (PL-4) attend the urology courses sponsored by the AUA or any other educational programs. They attend national meetings such as the AUA and the American College of Surgeons, participating in presentations at the annual meetings.
The visiting lecturers are invited on a monthly basis to the Urology Conference at Maimonides. The lecturer may be from another institution or from another department in our medical center. Twice a year, the Urology Program has an extended visiting professor day. The Immergut lectureship provides a distinguished guest speaker in November. In the spring, the Division of Urology hosts a visiting professor for an extensive teaching session and lecture.
