Welcome to Our Program
The Pediatric program offers an outstanding faculty under the leadership of Danielle Laraque, MD, Chair of Pediatrics, and Ingrid Walker-Descartes, MD, MPH Program Director. Coupled with a dedicated and renowned array of faculty, the department fosters a philosophy that embraces education in a clinical environment based on “family-centered” care. This emphasis represented in the medical student experience will provide a sound basis for understanding the importance of building and maintaining strong patient-family-physician relations that are critical to high pediatric quality care.
Maimonides has been designated as a children's hospital, by the National Association of Children's Hospital & Related Institutions. We are the one and only officially designated children's hospital in Brooklyn. Our mission, WE CARE, encompasses our drive to improve the health and well-being of children through excellence in family-centered care, advocacy, research and education. To complement our mission, we now have the state-of- the art facilities and dedicated teaching faculty to accomplish this.
Maimonides Medical Center is a 711-bed, non-profit, teaching and community hospital in Borough Park, Brooklyn. There are a total of 36 dedicated inpatient pediatric beds, including an 11-bed pediatric intensive care unit and a 25-bed pediatric inpatient unit. There is a dedicated pediatric emergency department staffed by Pediatric Emergency Medicine-trained physicians around the clock.
