Overview

The Division of Geriatric Medicine, established in 1997, offers a fully accredited, one-year Geriatric Fellowship program, with a total of four fellows each year. Acceptance to the available positions each year is highly competitive. Ten faculty members, including two nurse practitioners and one social worker, comprise the teaching staff. Additional physician faculty is nursing home based. The range of clinical services includes a 29-bed Acute Care for Elderly (ACE) Unit, an active consult service, a home medical visit program, ambulatory practice and clinic sites, including a NORC (naturally occurring retirement community), nursing homes, sub-acute care and hospice care.

As a major tertiary care hospital, as well as the Brooklyn teaching campus of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, there is an active training program at the medical student and resident level, in which fellows are involved. Maimonides serves a population with a very high proportion of elderly in the community. Our patient mix is diverse and multi-ethnic.
