Curriculum

Maimonides offers a robust 36-month training program in emergency medicine that is divided into four-week blocks as follows:

PGY 1

  • 1 block Orientation to the ED
  • 5.5 blocks in the Adult ED
  • 2 blocks in the Pediatric ED
  • 1 block on the Medical service
  • 3 weeks with the EMS division
  • 3 weeks with Anesthesia and ED Ultrasound
  • 1 block Medical Intensive Care Unit
  • All interns will be supported to attend the annual Society for Academic Emergency Medicine National Meeting

PGY 2

  • 6 blocks in the ED (mixed adult and pediatric shifts)
  • 2 blocks at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland
  • 1 block ED Ultrasound
  • 1 block in the Coronary Care Unit
  • 1 block in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
  • 1 block Orthopedics

PGY 3

  • 7.5 blocks in the ED (mixed adult and pediatric shifts)
  • 1 block Pediatric Trauma or International Emergency Medicine
  • 1 block of Administration/Research
  • 1 block Elective
  • 1 block Toxicology at the New York Poison Control Center
  • 0.5 block OB Delivery
  • Support to attend any regional or national meeting in which the resident has research accepted for presentation.

Each year of training includes a total of four weeks vacation.
