Curriculum
Maimonides offers a robust 36-month training program in emergency medicine that is divided into four-week blocks as follows:
PGY 1
- 1 block Orientation to the ED
- 5.5 blocks in the Adult ED
- 2 blocks in the Pediatric ED
- 1 block on the Medical service
- 3 weeks with the EMS division
- 3 weeks with Anesthesia and ED Ultrasound
- 1 block Medical Intensive Care Unit
- All interns will be supported to attend the annual Society for Academic Emergency Medicine National Meeting
PGY 2
- 6 blocks in the ED (mixed adult and pediatric shifts)
- 2 blocks at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland
- 1 block ED Ultrasound
- 1 block in the Coronary Care Unit
- 1 block in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
- 1 block Orthopedics
PGY 3
- 7.5 blocks in the ED (mixed adult and pediatric shifts)
- 1 block Pediatric Trauma or International Emergency Medicine
- 1 block of Administration/Research
- 1 block Elective
- 1 block Toxicology at the New York Poison Control Center
- 0.5 block OB Delivery
- Support to attend any regional or national meeting in which the resident has research accepted for presentation.
Each year of training includes a total of four weeks vacation.
