Attending Physician Mentorship
Students will have direct bedside learning and one-on-one clinical teaching from attending physicians while in the ED.
On Tuesdays during your rotation, you will meet with a member of our department to discuss important topics in Emergency Medicine. These lectures will include cardiovascular, neurovascular, GI, obstetrics/gynecologics, toxicology, orthopedics, neurology, sepsis, pediatrics and trauma.
On Wednesdays, you will join the residents and faculty for Resident Conference, with additional lectures, discussion and labs.
Students will be given hands-on training in managing cases in our simulation lab. During which, you will be challenged with real-time decision-making individually, as well as with your team, in treating medically complex patients.
Suture/Fracture Management Lab
A three hour lab will be offered for students to augment their technical skills. You will practice various techniques in wound management. In addition, you will practice the placement of a number of splints in managing fractures and sprains.
You can schedule an EMS ride-along day for one of your shifts. You will gain a perspective from the field as to the challenges and approaches used in pre-hospital care.
