Andre Giannakopoulos, M.D. was born and raised in Long Island, NY where he graduated from Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, earned his associate in science degree from Nassau Community College. He went on to graduate, with honors, from the State University of New York at Old Westbury, with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in biology. He then went on to medical school at Ross University where he earned his M.D. degree.
While still a medical student, he rotated through many different Long Island and City hospitals including Long Island Jewish, King’s County, Wyckoff Heights, Jamaica Hospital, and The Hospital for Joint Disease in Manhattan, to name just a few, and it was at that point where he realized the very real obesity epidemic this city and the rest of the country was facing.
Andre Giannakopoulos, M.D. did his residency training in internal medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. While there he recognized one the greatest challenges in his internal medicine office was dealing with his obese patients and getting them to lose weight. His determination to make a difference brought him to Long Island Weight Loss Institute where he partnered with Dr. Michael Kaplan, D.O. to share with him, his expertise. “With the right approach, the right knowledge and more time, this disease can be managed and defeated, one patient at a time.”
Currently, Andre Giannakopoulos, MD functions as a hospitalist at Maimonides Medical Center, as assistant physician in the department of medicine, in the division of internal medicine, and a full time attending physician at Long Island Weight Loss Institute specializing in bariatric medicine. He is also an affiliate of the Center for Medical Weight Loss, servicing the Long Island area, at 1-800-MD-BE-THIN. He has been written about in the Daily News, NY, and Courier-Journal, Louisville Kentucky regarding obesity and successful outcomes. He is double board certified, a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Diplomat of the American Board of Bariatric Medicine.
