Maimonides is a major teaching affiliate of SUNY-Brooklyn, the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, and St. George’s University. As a major teaching hospital, MMC provides solid undergraduate teaching and offers significant learning opportunities. Its role as a regional teaching center has been further enhanced through its affiliations with other medical institutions in the region, including Coney Island Hospital.
Coney Island Hospital
Coney Island Hospital, a 470-bed public hospital, serves the Brooklyn ocean-front neighborhood famous for its boardwalk and amusement park. Established originally as a first-aid facility for a summer beach resort, Coney Island Hospital is now a major teaching hospital with 50 outpatient clinics serving a patient population of 750,000 that reflects the multicultural diversity of Brooklyn. As a public service hospital it provides residents with a wide variety of learning opportunities and a patient-case mix which is highly diversified. Additionally, Coney Island Hospital has one of New York City’s busiest emergency rooms equipped with its own operating room, X-ray and CT scan machinery.
In addition to its graduate medical education affiliations, Maimonides is also an active allied health education center, training physician’s assistants, pharmacists, physical therapists, radiologists and nurses.
Maimonides serves as an integrated institution in the following programs sponsored by SUNY-Brooklyn: cardio-thoracic surgery, otolaryngology, rehabilitation medicine and pediatric endocrinology.
