US Marine Serving in Iraq is "Virtually Present" for Birth of Son at Maimonides
US Marine Serving in Iraq is "Virtually Present" for Birth of Son at Maimonides
Lance Corporal Michael Cintron, a US Marine on the front lines in Iraq, was "virtually" present for his wife's labor and delivery in the Maimonides birthing center, thanks to a collaboration between our IT staff and the
Freedom Calls Foundation
. When Dr. Lim Tse determined that Jeannine Cintron required a C-Section, the technical challenges were resolved in moments as the satellite equipment was moved into the OR. Dad met his son the moment he was born. This first-in-NYC event was reported in a touching
feature story in the Daily News
.
Repeating the collaboration a few days later, Maimonides hosted another "visit" from Michael Cintron with his wife and newborn son. FOX News went live from Maimonides during the visit -- necessitating a separate satellite hook-up from here to the studio in Manhattan. All of the technical requirements for connecting the three locations were perfectly executed -- and the large national audience of FOX News was able to be part of a lovely family tableau. In addition to the live segment on "America's Newsroom," FOX featured a print story on their homepage that linked to the
Daily News article and video
.
Immediately after the FOX broadcast, Maimonides IT experts were interviewed live on the Brian Lehrer Show of WNYC Radio. Anthony Mancuso explained how he and Gus Koutsivitis facilitated the satellite hook-up, and told the audience how moving it was to be part of such a touching event.
