The Stella and Joseph Payson Birthing Center has recently expanded to an 11 room Labor & Delivery suite that also has four additional rooms for the care of high risk women. These rooms offer the convenience of a home-like setting, but are equipped with the latest equipment, as well as expert staff. We have a comprehensive team of experienced obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, midwives, nurses, patient care technicians, information specialists, OR technicians and doulas working together to ensure your safety and comfort, and to provide top notch care.
When you come to the suite you will walk into a tastefully adorned, sunlit room with wooden floors, which is spacious enough to accommodate accompanying family members, medical personnel and the infant bassinet. The medical equipment needed to care for the laboring woman is cleverly concealed behind cabinets and in ceilings, readily available for use.
At Maimonides we pride ourselves on being patient centered and family friendly. In addition to their significant other, women are encouraged to bring an additional person for support. On site at all times are nurses and physicians, as well as a large group of volunteer doulas, an established group of hospital based midwives and a team of physicians’ assistants. All whose objective is to provide comprehensive care in the safest environment for the woman and her newborn. You will find a staff that is as diverse as the major communities that we serve, and that is also friendly and attentive to your needs.
Our excellent record has led to our continued expansion; we now deliver nearly 7,000 babies per year at the Maimonides Medical Center, the largest number for a single hospital in New York State. Our state of the art neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), other support services, as well as the recognized high quality of our general obstetricians, Maternal–Fetal Medicine specialists, OB anesthesiologists and nursing staff has earned us the status of Regional Perinatal Center. This status, granted by the New York State Department of Health, makes us the referral center for the South Brooklyn community.
