Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) Implantation

Gregory Crooke, MD and Paul Saunders, MD, cardiothoracic surgeons at the Maimonides Heart & Vascular Center, walk viewers through the implantation process and benefits of a left ventricular assist device, or LVAD. Maimonides is the only hospital in Brooklyn with an accredited LVAD Program.

An LVAD is a mechanical pump that assists people suffering from severe heart failure. After it is implanted into the chest, the LVAD helps pump blood from the lower left chamber of the heart to the rest of the body.
