LEFT VENTRICULAR ASSIST DEVICE "LVAD"  

An LVAD is a mechanical pump that assists people with weak hearts or those with heart failure. It is implanted into the chest and helps pump blood from the lower left chamber of the heart to the rest of the body. An LVAD can be implanted as a long-term treatment for heart failure, especially in patients too frail to be candidates for a heart transplant. Read More> 

 

TRANSCATHETER AORTIC VALVE REPLACEMENT "TAVR"
An innovative approach to the treatment of severe narrowing of the aortic valve opening. Instead of open heart surgery, a balloon catheter is placed in the femoral artery (in the groin) and guided into the heart. A compressed heart valve is then placed in the catheter and directed inside the diseased aortic valve. Once in position, the balloon is inflated to secure the valve in place. Learn More>

The Joint Commission Awarded Certification on Aug. 23rd with NO FINDINGS. The surveyor commented that the commitment and dedication of the LVAD team to the program and patients was clearly evident, and it is unique for a program to receive no findings whatsoever.  

The First LVAD Patient in Brooklyn
A Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) was the last option for Gene Laferlita. After years of suffering from congestive heart failure and myriad other health problems, his cardiologist told him that his medicine was no longer working.
