For Referring Physicians

A Letter To Referring Physicians

In 2010, I left a long established surgical career at NYU to become Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center. In this last year, I have been impressed with the caliber of skilled surgeons and staff at Maimonides, and the resulting patient outcomes.

Residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island now have the option of staying locally for minimally invasive heart surgery, which allows surgeons to repair hearts without the trauma of a cracking open the sternum. As an alternative to replacing heart valves, our surgeons can often repair them, allowing conditions that were once inoperable to be surgically corrected.

The Center for Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery at Maimonides is a rarity among cardiothoracic centers. Here, our physicians routinely perform valve procedures using less invasive, more patient friendly techniques. Along with the established expertise of our cardiac surgeons, the Maimonides Heart & Vascular Center offers cardiovascular care which ranks us among the best in the nation.

As always, our patients are the primary concern. Our team of cardiothoracic surgeons work closely with cardiologists, anesthesiologists, nurses, medical staff and referring physicians to offer comprehensive treatment and provide a multidisciplinary approach to the heart issue at hand.

At Maimonides, our physicians view cardiothoracic surgery as a collaboration between the surgeon, patient and referring physician. Our surgeons provide the best care available to our cardiac patients, and are accessible twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. When undergoing complex surgery, we want our patients to feel confident knowing that their hearts are in good hands.

Sincerely,
Greg H. Ribakove, MD, Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery

Cardiothoracic Physician Referral Line

We understand that our partnerships with referring physicians are critical to success. We rely on their extensive knowledge of their patients and their patients’ histories, and we actively consult with them at every stage of the process. To streamline access, we offer our referring physicians a dedicated referral line to call at (718) 283-7686, enabling community-based and in-house physicians to speak directly with a coordinator at virtually any time of the day to arrange a referral or consultation.

This line is staffed by the Divisional Administrator for Cardiothoracic Surgery, Daniele Aniello, and is available on a 24/7 basis. It is our intention that referring physicians be able to speak with an actual person at all times. In the rare event that Ms. Aniello is unavailable, we ensure that a follow-up call will be forthcoming as soon as possible.
