In 2006, in keeping with the Maimonides Cancer Center's mission, Pamela S. Brier, President & CEO of Maimonides Medical Center, appointed Jay S. Cooper, MD, FACR, FACRO, FASTRO as Director of the Cancer Center and Chairman of the Radiation Oncology Department. Through Dr. Cooper's leadership, the Maimonides Cancer Center offers patients a coordinated cancer care program that is first class in all ways -- nationally recognized doctors, who use cutting-edge technology and know how to take good care of patients as human beings, not simply people with cancer.

To illustrate this, Dr. Cooper likes to quote Maimonides, “The physician should not treat the disease, but the patient who is suffering from it.”
